CAMPING PROGRAM
The Camping Program is a corner-stone of the school's Outdoor Education Policy. All students attend an annual camp, and the activities are planned to develop progressively the students' capacity to cope with different situations. The sequence of camps forms a coherent program that helps develop students' independence, self confidence, and capacity to study. Currently the program consists of: Year 7: Camp Bridgewater. A "getting to know you" camp fostering the development of personal relationships to assist new students to quickly become part of the Bayview family. Includes beach walking, canoeing, cycling and caving. Year 8: Grampians. Three day camp at ‘Grampians Retreat’ at Dunkeld. Includes walking to the summit of Mt Abrupt, archery, ropes course and other activities Year 9: Lower Glenelg National Park. An "under-canvas" camp to further develop camping skills. Students experience canoeing, bush walking and cycling through the Lower Glenelg National Park. This Year 9 camp prepares the students for the Year 10 Great South West Challenge. Year 10: The "Great South West Challenge". The culmination of our outdoor camping program developed during Year 7 to 9. Over a 10-day period, students complete a circuit of the Great South West Walk, by foot, canoe and bicycle. Year 11: Snow Camp. A 5 day camp staying at the bottom of Mt. Hotham. Three days of skiing/snowboarding developing skills in an alpine environment. This is a life time experience in an environment unfamiliar to most students. |
